About Mixed Martial Arts

Mixed Martial Arts was brought to St. Mary’s in 2007 by Pete Lower, Ben Spencer and Jamie Macrae. Originally a Muay thai based club, it then branched out into groundwork in 2008 before effectively incorporting kickboxing and Brazilian Ju Jitsu.

We are visited weekly by a pro- fighter, Simon Gill, who coaches Brazillian Ju Jitsu and holds a number of titles to his name. We believe that our head members’ external experience is vital to the development of the club and our current President, Elliot Hirons, competes in amateur MMA fights. Shaniel Veman, a member and coach of the team, specialises in striking and has been successfully competing at an amateur level for over 8 years, most recently winning 2 British titles.

Our aim as a club is to not only make MMA accessible to all, but also to challenge and develop our members’ skills. Whether you are aiming to reach a competitive level or simply want to get into shape, our variety of classes will give you the chance to reach your highest potential.
