Simmies ladies rugby is a successful team competing in BUCS league 1A, we are a friendly bunch of girls who tackle hard on the pitch but play hard off it too. The team as it stands is of mixed ability and everyone is welcome… A fair few of the girls that come along and give us a go have never picked up a rugby ball before and just fancy trying something new…after that they’re hooked !
This year we are trying something a bit new for the team and a partnership between the Simmies Rugby Team and local team Teddington Ladies has been established. We have merged training sessions on a Monday evening offering specialised coaching for the forwards and backs , from 3 to 4 different coaches with the potential for guest coaches to make an appearance. This means all abilities are catered for so there is no need to feel out of your depth!
We also train on a Friday with our head Coach Tish, this is a more fitness based session and varies from circuit training to some martial arts and bits and bobs just to mix it up a bit. Matches are played on Wednesday ...This year we are fortunate enough to have Brunel in our league so we can show our rivals exactly which Uni has the stronger sports teams!
Come along to the try before you buy scheme on the 20th to see what we’re all about and have a chat with the girls and find out how last years fresher’s have found there year playing for the team, I can honestly say some of my best friends and happiest memories of my time at uni so far have been down to my girls on the rugby team.
