Volunteering is a great way to make new friends and contacts, impress graduate employers who are increasingly looking for volunteering experience, develop useful skills and build your CV. Recent research said nine out of ten volunteers felt that volunteering had boosted their job prospects and 96% said it had helped to develop their skills. If you’re still not convinced, research has also shown volunteers are happier and less stressed than those who don’t volunteer. Here are our three easy steps to getting stuck in and making sure that you stand out from the crowd.

The Careers Service has teamed up with other departments within St Mary’s to help you develop new skills for work while helping out on projects that interest you.

We would like to know where your interests lie, so visit the Careers Service and select which department of St Mary’s you would like to volunteer in. If you would like to volunteer outside the University we can also put you in touch with the right organisations and help you with the application process.

You can gain valuable skills in areas such as administration, community outreach, events, fundraising, IT, liturgy, management, media, mentoring, research, promotion and much, much more….

This is a great opportunity to make a difference in your university by helping out in short term and longer term projects according to your availability.

As a registered SMUC volunteer you automatically become a member of the new ‘Volunteer Society’.  To sign up come into the Careers Service (J3) any week day, come to the SU Clubs and Societies Night (29th September 4 – 8.30 pm) or contact Catherine Anderson on andersonca@smuc.ac.uk or by calling 020 8240 4055 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting              020 8240 4055      end_of_the_skype_highlighting begin_of_the_skype_highlighting         020 8240 4055     end_of_the_skype_highlighting.
